Application of DIC Technology in Civil Engineering
During construction and operation, transportation civil engineering structures inevitably undergo various forms of damage—such as deformation, displacement, and cracking—due to internal and external factors, which can compromise their serviceability and durability. Testing the compressive strength, durability, and deformation characteristics of materials and structures provides a reliable guarantee for the safe use of these transportation infrastructure assets.
DIC (Digital Image Correlation) strain measurement technology enables the measurement of mechanical behavior on the surfaces of materials and structures. By analyzing displacement and strain characteristics, it allows for the detection of failure modes (such as displacement, deformation, and crack propagation), as well as the identification of failure locations, areas, and progression trends. Consequently, it serves as a vital research tool for safety assessments in transportation civil engineering.
