On October 17–18, the 2019 Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Summit (BATi) was held at the JW Marriott Hotel Shenzhen Qianhai. During the event, the list of "Outstanding Young Entrepreneurs of the Greater Bay Area" (honoring the region's achievements over the past 70 years) was unveiled. Tang Zhengzong, founder and CEO of XTOP3D—a leading domestic company in 3D industrial inspection—was named among the innovators, becoming the sole representative from the 3D optical inspection sector to make the list. Other honorees included 54 outstanding young entrepreneurs from the Greater Bay Area, such as Xu Yubin (founder of Hive Box), Peng Xin (founder of Nayuki), and He Fan (founder of Huishoubao).
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area serves as a vital spatial platform for the nation to develop a world-class city cluster and engage in global competition; it ranks alongside the New York Bay Area and San Francisco Bay Area in the United States and the Tokyo Bay Area in Japan as one of the world's four major bay areas. In 2017, the region's GDP surpassed 10 trillion yuan—a total economic output exceeding that of Russia—placing it 11th globally (on par with South Korea) and establishing it as the most economically dynamic region in China.
Amidst increasingly fierce competition in the technology sectors among major powers, young entrepreneurs in science and technology have emerged as true trailblazers of the era. The selection of Tang Zhengzong, founder and CEO of XTOP3D, reflects the high regard and acclaim the company has earned from industry peers and expert judges alike; it underscores the positive impact that XTOP3D’s mature portfolio of 3D optical inspection products and solutions has had on relevant industries.
Tang Zhengzong, Founder of XTOP3D: The Sole Representative from the Industrial Visual Inspection Sector
Tang Zhengzong holds a Ph.D. from Xi'an Jiaotong University and is a renowned expert in 3D optical measurement in China. His primary research interests include machine vision, industrial 3D photogrammetry, and full-field 3D deformation and strain measurement and analysis. He led his team in formulating the first national standard in the field of 3D optics. Their projects have garnered prestigious honors, including the Second Prize of the National Award for Technological Invention and the First Prize of the Shaanxi Province Science and Technology Award, with multiple research achievements and key technologies reaching world-leading levels.
As a core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhen is currently home to the headquarters of 379 listed companies—surpassing Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing to rank first in the country. In 2013, shortly after completing his doctoral studies, Tang Zhengzong co-founded XTOP3D Technology (Xi'an) Co., Ltd. with his team, launching the market rollout of their 3D industrial inspection technologies and subsequently gaining widespread market recognition.
In 2018, XTOP3D and a global AI... Orbbec, a leader in the 3D technology sector, underwent a strategic restructuring that included relocating its headquarters to Shenzhen and establishing XTOP3D Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. When asked about the move from Xi'an to Shenzhen, Tang Zhengzong explained: "Our decision was primarily driven by considerations of market breakthroughs and growth potential. We chose to relocate our headquarters to Shenzhen—a city with a thriving hardware industry and immense market possibilities—to actively integrate into the strategic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and continuously empower its growth."
Tang added: "While the development of China's manufacturing sector has garnered global attention, there remains an over-reliance on imports for many core products critical to the industry's lifeblood—such as high-precision 3D optical inspection systems. In reality, through independent R&D and technological innovation, we can break foreign monopolies and position ourselves at the forefront of the global stage in terms of key technologies and product applications. The Greater Bay Area boasts a robust industrial foundation, and amidst the ongoing industrial upgrade, there is a clear need to inject advanced inspection capabilities into the region."
XTOP3D: Continuously Empowering Manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area
The development of the manufacturing sector within the Greater Bay Area relies on innovation driven by technology and applications. Innovative enterprises represent the direction of industrial transformation and serve as a key indicator of a region's innovative capacity. The founder of XTOP3D has been recognized as an outstanding young entrepreneur in the Greater Bay Area. ...this list stands as a testament to this innovative force.
As a leader in the field of 3D industrial inspection, XTOP3D has launched a range of mature 3D optical measurement and inspection products, consistently driving technological innovation in the sector. Notably, in the realm of 3D optical inspection for bent-tube components, XTOP3D was the first to break the foreign technological monopoly and overcome the challenges associated with in-line inspection of such parts. Furthermore, regarding the application of 5G technology in industrial inspection, the company developed the first "5G Industrial Internet Project Application"—an initiative that was featured in a dedicated series of reports by CCTV News.
To date, XTOP3D’s products and solutions have been successfully deployed across more than ten industries, including automotive manufacturing, mold making, and electronics. The company has established close partnerships with numerous large and medium-sized domestic enterprises, prestigious universities, and research institutes.
